Fanfarrias Xacobeas (Xacobean Fanfares), overture for orchestra or symphonic band, was commissioned by Antoni Ros Marbà, to be premiered and toured by the Real Filharmonía de Galicia in 2010-11. Later, in 2013, it was performed by the Orquestra Sinfónica de Galicia, conducted by Víctor Pablo Pérez.
The origin and opportunity in the gestation of this work stemmed from such an emblematic Galician circumstance as was the Compostela Holy Year - Xacobeo - in 2010. In the light of the festivity, the piece seeks to evoke a portal of joy wherefrom gently emerges the recognisable main motive of Pascual Veiga’s Himno Galego (Galician Hymn), triumphant in a perpetual latent brightness. Its fanfarria character - so dear to the world of bands - earned the work its transcription for symphonic band by Rafael Collazo in 2014.
