Miquel Martí i Guàrdia
Qualified as a musician in six specialist areas, he was a violinist with the Orquestra Ciutat de Barcelona from 1967 to 1983, and has taught at the Music Schools of Terrassa and Sabadell and at the Municipal Music School of Barcelona, teaching the violin, harmony, counterpoint and musical analysis. He also worked as Director of the Sabadell Music School from 1981 to 1983, and Assistant Director of the Barcelona Municipal School of Music from 1993 to 1997.
He has frequently been a member of panels for competitive examinations and competitions, such as the Young Composers competition of the Autonomous Government of Catalonia and the Maria Canals International Piano Competition (1991, 1993 and 1995).
He has produced many arrangements for particular groups, such as the Grup de Saxòfons B/N('), led by the saxophonist Miquel Bofill, and he has also composed various works for chamber ensembles, voice, choir, piano, orchestra etc. Among these works are his 'Sonata cíclica', for violin and piano, and his 'Visions', a suite for orchestra that was first performed in the Barcelona concert hall Palau de la Música Catalana.
