Cançoner I for voice and piano

The songs contained in this compilation are new pieces of music, although they are inspired by popular songs, and are based on texts that come from the traditional Catalan songbook compiled by Joan Amades in his Folklore de Catalunya. They are poems from various origins: children’s songs, fairy tales, improvised corrandes, working songs, dances, etc. They are all instilled with popular freshness, lyricism and sometimes a naïve, fine craftiness, but the main theme is love and heartbreak, desire and amorous concerns –not always answered– of the young.

Captivated and inspired by the flat spirit of poetry, which can veer from the purest of feelings to the burlesque, the music of these songs would like to reach the heights of the clear, simple melodic beauty that has been a long-standing tradition in Catalonia, modestly but with the firm desire to be enjoyable and able to arouse emotion.
