Cantata for children in two versions: one for children’s choir and piano and the other for children’s choir and a woodwind and piano quartet.
It requires a large choir of children aged 8–9 that at times can be divided into three voices. The choir will sometimes need to be reduced to a few singers to create a magical and intimate atmosphere. In the only soloist piece, in the orchestrated version, take care to ensure that the voice is not masked. The spoken texts, cries or phrases performed by a single child or by the whole choir must be very precise and very well integrated into the general phrasing of the piece so that the music has great depth and never loses its flow or tension.
Needless to say, good instrumentalists who provide security and enhance the end result of the piece are a must.
