With this piece, the recognized Barcelona composer Xavier Boliart adds another piece to the repertory of music for the 'tenora', a traditional catalonian instrument like a shawm. Boliart has an extensive catalogue of works written for all of the main ensembles of Barcelona: the City Orchestra of Barcelona, the Municipal Band and the Cobla of Barcelona (the cobla is a band of traditional instruments which includes the tenora). 'Caprici' is a short piece in a contemporary language intended to challenge the player of the tenora, an instrument entirely unique to Catalonia. The writing is not in the usual folk or popular 'sardana' style that is written for these instruments. The profound influence of Stavinsky is always present in the music of Boliart with it's constant rhythmic vivaciousness.
