My aim in producing this work is to give young people starting to learn the instrument the musical knowledge and technique they will find essential for progress.
In terms of music, developing the ability to distinguish the melody from the accompaniment (layered sounds).
In terms of rhythm, the beat is to be followed, keeping the accents in mind ' syncopations and off-beats.
Almost all the basic technical aspects are covered in this collection: slurred notes, chords, arpeggios, harmonics, bar fingerings and playing two notes together (octaves and thirds).
The students will also become acquainted with a musical form that is different from the forms they usually play.
I hope that these five pieces will lead to improvements in technique, and more particularly to enjoyment in playing music.
