DIVERTIMENTO is written for string orchestra (it can also be performed by a smaller group) and was composed in 2005, commissioned by the Royal Galician Philharmonic Orchestra for their 2006-2007 season. It was premiered by that orchestra, directed by Edmon Colomer, in the Galicia Auditorium in Santiago de Compostela.
This is a short work divided into five sections which progress seamlessly. As it's name suggests, the composition has a spontaneous and direct character. We can also appreciate the homage to the string divertimenti of Mozart although the composer does not forget other divertimenti from closer to our time that influence this work, such as that of Bartók. The intention to create a carefree soundscape is shown by the way the composer uses rhythm, giving it a leading role in the work, both by rhythmic contrasts (ranging from a kind of jota to a Galician pandeirada) as well as by the constant changes in accentuation, the use of irregular measures, asymmetries, etc.
