He is a brilliant Cuban pianist who began his studies in Cuba with César Pérez Sentenat and Argeliers León among others, and continued them in Paris with J. Benvenutti, M. Ciampi (Paris Conservatory) and in Moscow with Samuel Feinberg, L. Roschina and Heinrich Neuhaus in piano, E. Denisov, and V. Jolopov, among others (all of them in the Tschaikowsky Conservatory of Moscow). His outstanding career has been fully recognized. He has been awarded several international Prizes: in the Contests Vianna da Motta in Lisbon and Margarite Long.
He has played under the direction of conductors such as O. Koch, E. G. Mantici, M. Duchesne Cuzán, G. Herbig, V. Dudarova, O. Balam, A. Argudo, and S. Brotons, among others.
His investigations into the problematic Hispanic issues of Latin-American music have been very appreciated and this is why he has been invited several times to give conferences in the U.S., Portugal, Mexico, Cuba, and Spain. He has also published articles in specialist magazines from Europe, and Latin-America: the magazine Ritmo (Madrid), Revista Ferrolanàsis (El Ferrol). He is Doctor in Art Sciences and author of the book Espadero, lo hispano musical en Cuba (Espadero, the Hispanic Musical Things in Cuba).
He has been invited to participate as a member of the jury in contests in Italy, Andorra, Cuba and Spain. He has taught superb classes and conferences in different institutions. Among them, the Instituto Superior de Arte de La Habana (Superior Art Institute of La Havana), the University of Miami, the Manhattan School of Music of New York and Centro Latinoamericano de Altos Estudios Musicales (Latin-American Center of High Musical Studies) of the Catholic University of America in Washington DC.
He has debuted the works of contemporaneous composers, some of which have been dedicated to him. This has happened with composers such as José Ardévol, Ramón Barce, Harold Gramatges, Nilo Rodríguez, Juan Piñera, Xavier Benguerel and Xavier Montsalvatge. He is in a duo called el Dúo Tieles, formed together with Evelio Tieles, who plays the violin. He is also in a group called Dúo Ibericano with Jorge Casanova, who plays pick instruments.
He is the Head of the Piano Department in the Conservatorio Profesional de Música (Professional Music Conservatory) of Vilaseca and Cathedratic of the Conservatorio Superior de Música del Liceo (Superior Music Conservatory of the Lyceum) of Barcelona. He is also Director of the Curso Internacional de Música (International Course of Music) of Vilaseca, president and founding member of the Asociación Cultural Catalana-Iberoamericana (Catalan-Latino-American Cultural Association) and Vice-president of the Asociación Catalana de Intérpretes de Música Clásica (Catalan Association of Interpreters of Classical Music).
