Cervantina, in tribute to Miguel de Cervantes and subtitled Symphonic Suite on Spanish Compositions, is an orchestral piece in a single movement that is made up of compositions that Cervantes could have heard and probably did hear, given the popularity that most of them obtained during the Renaissance and Baroque periods. It consists of brief chain verse movements that recreate Diferencias sobre “Guárdame las vacas”, Fantasía by Mudarra, Tres morillas me enamoran en Jaén and Ay, triste que vengo. All these compositions are connected by a common thread or unifying element of the score: the Follies of Spain. This piece opens and closes the composition and reappears (always under a different form), linking the various movements that make up this suite.
