Acròstic was written for the concert series Músiques per a la Pau (Musics for Peace), that pianist Albert Nieto did in 1987.
With this piece, the much missed Francesc Taverna Bech (1932-2010) presents us with a poetic work, full of contrast, inspired in acrostic poetry, where a series of lines or verses in which the first, last, or other particular letters – when taken in order – spell out a word or phrase.
In the score, one can find many typical forms and figures from tavern piano music writing. In words of the composer, “they symbolize the desire for peace the work is based upon.”
