This string trio was written in 1981 and premiered on the same year in Sant Pere de Torelló. It consists of three very different movements, which confer the piece a great variety.
The first movement is based upon a melody which is repeated with different accompaniments, whose textures give it a tripartite form.
The second movement has a peculiar structure. It consists of two themes with variations. The first, with four variations, and the second, with three, are separated by a three-voiced invention in the fashion of Bach. Its originality makes it the trio's lynchpin.
The third movement presents a long, cheerful and easy character which leads to the more grave and rhythmic main theme. A slow, lyric theme is inserted in the middle, which contrasts with the two themes of the movement.
