Duet de Vilac

Inside Pages
Contents
'This short duo for flute and piano, which I wrote in Vilac (in the Vall d'Aran in the Pyrenees) in August 1978, is predominantly cheerful and extrovert in nature, though occasionally becoming contemplative and nostalgic, particularly in the significant passage featuring low, expressive tones that comes just before the conclusion. All the sequences that come and go in the dialogue and concerted sections for the flute and piano stem from the constant rotation of the twelve-note series that first appears at the beginning of the piece. The flow of the musical events that emerge in the work's various sections is the key to its meaning, and was suggested to me chiefly by the counterpoint of birdsong I was so often surrounded by up there, and the muted murmur of memories inside me.'Joaquim Homs Joaquim Homs
