El testament de n'Amèlia (Amelia's Testament)
Joan Lamote de Grignon, apart from being a composer, was an excellent orchestrator and a great lyricist. So we should not be surprised that of the three sardanas he composed for cobla two are inspired in popular songs.
It is worth mentioning that the popular song treatment, with ternary rhythm, is masterfully adapted to the binary rhythm of the sardana and the lyrics are done with extraordinary control of harmonic and instrumental resources. The curts (short measures), that still show influence from the 'short sardana' (the 6/8 time used reflects this), serve as prelude, and the 12 initial llargs (long measures) are the door to the presentation of the popular theme and its lyrical development.

This sardana is based on the same model as the other two by the same composer: curts in 6/8 time and very rhythmic (reminiscence of the short sardana) and llargs in 2/4 time, in subdominant tone with respect to the curts. The lyrical treatment of the popular melody is not so speculative - nor rhythmic, nor instrumentally harmonic - as in the case of El testament de n'Amèlia, surely due to the reason for the occasion for which it was conceived.
